Teen Startup News: Korembi

Korembi is a language-learning platform founded in August of 2021 by Serenaty Lumpkin, 17-year-old entrepreneur and college student.

How it started:

“It all began with a need. My friend from Brazil needed a job where she could work on her own time, set her own pay rates, and do something she loves. Korembi is more than a money-making platform. We empower students in developing countries to learn English, teach their language, earn money, and gain experience”.

Thus far, Korembi offers courses in a sub-dialect of Soutern Portuguese and Burmese. They are expanding to reach with students in Tibet, India, Nepal, Yemen, Ethiopia, Philippines, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Georgia, Lebanon, Cambodia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan. Not to mention the unique languages from the islands, such as tribal languages from New Zealand, Kiribati, Oceania, and French Polynesia. Korembi strives to be known as one of the top unique language learning platforms in the world within the next 10 years.

Students between the ages of 14–25 can set their own rates, work their own hours, and can select whom they wish to teach. This concept is quite empowering, though you are still a student, no teaching degree is necessary. If you are semi to completely fluent in English and pass the VLEP Test {Virtual Language Exchange Program} then you can work with Korembi. Students now have the opportunity to teach. Korembi’s “students” are anyone who is from the European union and the United States.

“It is simple, on our website we have a link that takes the visitor to a sign up as a teacher or students. After submitting your address and our team verifies your information you will be accepted as a teacher or student. Our team pairs our teachers up with students who share s direct interest in the teachers’ specified language”.
